For all the young couples and singles alike – are you tired of people talking about children being the final destination in life? Some people have children, and that’s great! However, some people would rather have dogs (for ALL kinds of reasons of course) but here is a great list about why dogs are arguably better than children (from someone who doesn't have kids!).

THEY’RE LESS WORK

Puppies are HARD WORK, but for only 6 months to a year. Children are hard work until they stop being children (18 years?). Puppies might be more intense to care for than a newborn because a newborn will mostly be happy with being fed and babies don’t poo on the floor! You also don’t have those 3 hour feeds or nappy changes every few hours either.

YOU CAN LEAVE THEM TO GO TO WORK

I don’t believe it’s socially acceptable to leave children at home alone while you go to work. You have to pay for childcare, which is more than a really nice car payment each month! You can also go on quick weekend getaways, a nice quiet dinner or romantic movie and leave doggo with your parents or a pet sitter so you can enjoy some sneaky alone time.

THEY’RE EASY TO TOILET TRAIN

Have you ever tried to toilet train a child? My friend’s little girl recently walked up to her mum on a zoom meeting with a hand full of poop from her potty. That zoom ended quickly! Dogs on the other hand will learn in a matter of weeks where their toilet is and they’re quite civilised about it.

THEY’RE QUIETER

Provided you don’t have a barky doggo, they’re much quieter than children. No screaming in your house on a Saturday morning when you’re nursing a really bad headache. You can take them to cafes and sit in the sun in peace and quiet without listening to squealing. They will also lay next to you while you read a book laying in the sun!

THEY’RE LESS MESSY

After the puppy stage is over and done with (hello chewed shoes), doggos are MUCH less messy than children. You don’t get to yell at your doggo either to “pick up those Leggos or I will throw them away! I am asking you for the last time!”.

THERE IS NO RIGHT WAY

The argument for pets or kids has been going forever and there is no right way or right choice and so many people choose both options. Enjoy the option that you’ve chosen – it’s the right one for you!
